There has been an “explosion” of amicus letters at the Supreme Court since 2011, according to Anthony Franze and R. Reeves Anderson of Arnold & Porter, who delved into the subject and recently wrote an article on the decade-long trend. Franze and Anderson visit the development of the amicus briefs together with SCOTUStalk presenter Amy Howe. They investigate what type of amicus letter is likely to affect the court, how the judges interact with the letters, and most importantly, how to correctly pronounce “amicus”.
