HARNETT COUNTY – Attorneys for two former Cape Fear Christian Academy students who are alleged victims of sexual assault against a former school employee speak up.

Tammy Moran, 45, of Cottle Lake Drive in Coats, is being charged with three sexual activities by an assistant parent / carer, according to the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office.

Moran, who was the CFO of Cape Fear Christian Academy, is no longer listed as an employee on the school’s website. The officials of the Erwin private school did not respond to a request for comment at the time of going to press on Monday.

The alleged non-Harnett County victims were with Moran in school, said Coleman Cowan, an attorney for James Scott Farrin’s law firm. Cowan is representing the boys with Bakari Sellers of the Strom law firm in South Carolina.

A student lived in Moran’s house between 2018 and 2019. The second started living there in 2020, lawyers said.

Moran was arrested after the mother of one of the boys called the Harnett County Sheriff’s office to the school on March 17, according to court records.

But, Cowan said, this wasn’t the first time either parent tried to file a report against Moran. A parent had previously informed the school about what had happened.

“One of the things Bakari and I try to understand from school is what they knew, when they knew and what, if anything, they did about it,” he said.

Cowan said it appeared the students were still housed in Moran’s household after the mother of the first victim reported her son’s experience to the school.

Until last week, only criminal charges were filed against Moran, Cowan said. The victims have hired lawyers to represent “their rights and civil interests”.

Cowan said attorneys do not know if there might be more potential victims because the victims “have their own reasons for either moving forward or not moving forward”.

“It’s a terrible thing to happen to someone, especially a teenager and college student who are going through this and dealing with someone who has been taken to a place of trust,” he said.

“They have their own difficulty coming to terms with what happened to them,” he said of the victims who are in therapy as a result. “You have withdrawn. They are not quite the same people as before. “

In a joint statement, lawyers for the victims said they needed help from other families whose children were in school if their child was a victim.

“Sexual predators rely on their victims to keep silent so that they can continue to abuse others,” the statement said.

Allegations listed in court records

According to an affidavit in support of a search warrant for Moran’s home, the alleged victim, who had lived with Moran’s last year, told MPs that she would allegedly “hug him, rub his back, and then kiss him” in December, the affidavit Explanation of states.

“(The student) stated that Tammy would rub his private parts in January 2021 …” and that he had sexual intercourse with Moran several times between February 12 and March 15, the affidavit reads.

The boy also claimed Moran would not allow him to go home and even prevented him from having private conversations with his parents, the affidavit reads.

“(The victim) advised (that) Tammy would tell his parents that he was bad at school so they would let him stay,” the affidavit reads.

The MP wrote in the affidavit that the student had three videos on his cell phone of a person who appears to be Moran performing oral sex with him. Two videos were in a house and the third in Moran’s Tahoe, the document says.

The boy claimed that sexual acts had also happened in her bedroom, which he described to the deputy.

“(The victim) stated that Ms. Moran had Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse all over her bedroom and (the victim) was fixated on the stuffed Mickey Mouse on Mrs. Moran’s dresser,” the affidavit read.

The MP wrote when he went to Moran to retrieve the student’s personal effects, he noticed Disney and Mickey Mouse memorabilia that matched those in the video.

Other allegations against Moran in the affidavit are that she would text the victim via the Snapchat phone app about sex and that she would text the victim about “taking back” items such as shoes that she bought for him , wrote that the MP saw when he got the student’s things.

Among the items seized during the March 25 search of Moran’s home were jewelry and clothing seen in the videos, an Apple Watch, and biological evidence, the court record said.

As of Monday, Moran remained at the Harnett County Detention Center on $ 150,000 bail.
