Lawyers / paralegals
Are you a lawyer or paralegal looking to join a successful, commercially focused, and diverse in-house legal team?
With significant new investment in legal advice and the approval of a major City Deal project for the Glasgow City area, East Dunbartonshire Council is looking for talented, adaptable and enthusiastic lawyers to join our growing legal services team. Can you help us provide insightful, proactive and commercial legal assistance in a post-Brexit and Covid context and in support of an exciting new City Deal project?
We see our legal team as experts in local government. However, while substantial knowledge and experience in at least one of the specific areas covered by the job profile is required, a strong desire to work in local government and an understanding of local government are important law and practice. Legal Services has a process and licensing team, a trading team, and a new City Deal project team
We have roles in all of our teams and at all levels and we are looking for –
- Team leader – litigation and licensing
- City Deal Program Lead (Legal)
- and have new legal and legal positions on all three teams
What do we need?
Experience in a variety of fields, including construction, property, privacy, housing, and / or general litigation is particularly desirable, but enthusiasm, flexibility, and commitment to working in local government are essential.
For the role of team leader, you should also have in-depth workforce development skills and the drive to achieve results.
For the role of City Deal Program Lead (Legal), you should also have experience supporting the implementation of major infrastructure projects and play a leading role in multidisciplinary teams
All three teams have vacancies for lawyers and legal assistants. Candidates with experience in licensing are of particular interest to the Litigation & Licensing law firm, but this is not essential for all roles.
We are also looking for a paralegal to work with and report to the Council’s Chief Solicitor & Monitoring Officer to aid in strategic transactions, governance and engagement with partners and elected members. Ideally, you should have experience supporting complex projects and transactions, as well as dealing with executives and stakeholders.
If you are interested in joining us, you should have initiative, excellent communication, influence and human skills, and a positive and pragmatic attitude. The willingness to offer the council a first class, partnership-based and solution-oriented service is essential for all roles.
Our successful candidates will take a roll up sleeve approach to the challenges of providing legal support to a broad and complex group of services. They have a “can” attitude and are ready to face new challenges, sometimes on a daily basis. Excellent interpersonal skills are a prerequisite for building strong relationships across the company. Effective communication skills are also essential.
What you can expect
If you think you have the qualities for these challenges, along with a competitive salary, you will have access to all of the benefits of working for a public sector organization, including our municipal pension system, generous vacation allowances and flexible work that reflect our commitment to Supporting a positive work-life balance. You will also join a friendly, supportive, and talented in-house legal team.
