Casey Goodson Jr.’s family calls for a thorough investigation and response after he was shot dead by a Franklin County MP.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Casey Goodson Jr.’s attorneys, mother and family, will host a virtual press conference Thursday.

The press conference will be broadcast on 10TV and streamed on 10TV.com and the 10TV Facebook page.

Goodson was shot dead in North Columbus on December 4th by Jason Meade, MP for Franklin County. He was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

The Columbus Division of the Police Critical Incident Response Team is investigating the shooting. The FBI has also joined the investigation to determine if federal civil rights laws have been violated.

Dr. Anahi Ortiz, a coroner in Franklin County, said Goodson died from multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body.

Meade was part of the U.S. Marshals’ Fugitive Task Force.

The U.S. Marshals Service said Friday the task force had completed an operation when Goodson drove by and waved a gun to MPs.

Columbus police said Meade was investigating when there were “reports of verbal exchanges” and Meade fired at Goodson.

According to Columbus Police, a Goodson gun was recovered and had a concealed carry.

“Casey was very careful with his guns. Casey would never ride by waving his gun to someone, let alone a cop,” Goodson’s mother Tamala Payne said in an interview with CBS News.

Payne posted on Facebook that Goodson was shot three times in the back while walking into his house with food.

“He got out of his vehicle and went to his house to sit down and eat his sandwich and feed his grandmother and brother,” she told CBS News.

Police said there was no body camera video of the shooting because members of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office task force were not given body cameras.

Police said evidence in the case will be forwarded to the Franklin County Attorney’s Office to review the results and present to a grand jury.
