The surveillance video released by the Baldwin Police Department shows 15-year-old Quawan “Bobby” Charles hours before he was reported missing.
Police released the video after being criticized for handling the missing person report. They say the video shows Quawan Charles was not kidnapped, but his family lawyers are still asking if the police have done enough. They wonder why an Amber Alert was not issued and why the police stopped taking action to alert the community to a missing child. The video released by the Baldwin Police does not answer these questions.
“There aren’t many answers about what ultimately happened because anything that becomes problematic, scary, and mysterious happens after that moment,” said Chase Trichell, the Charles family attorney.
Trichell says they’re more interested in what happened to Quawan after the surveillance video. According to Baldwin Police, the video shows Quawan volunteering to get into a vehicle with his friend and friend’s mother.
“We didn’t see where it qualifies for kidnapping or abduction,” said Sam Wise, Baldwin’s deputy chief of police. “Because there were no eyewitnesses or no one to say that he jumped into the vehicle or even hit him and got him into that vehicle. So it didn’t qualify for contact with the state police.”

Although Baldwin Police say this is evidence to suspect a kidnapping, the family does not buy them.
“I think from their point of view he’s going on his own and there is no fuss. Quawan left Baldwin without a fight and I think that is the intent behind the release of the video. However, we know that the Baldwin PD did not Got this video on Oct 30. So it’s not real to rely on the video today as if you knew about it, “added Trichell.
The Iberia community is investigating Quawan’s death as murder. No suspects have been detained in connection with Quawan’s case. With several deaths related to the 15-year-old’s death missing, Trichell is asking law enforcement agencies for transparency.
“We don’t mind that the investigation is transparent. We asked for it from the start. Let’s open up dialogue with the family and even the community. What we don’t particularly appreciate is when evidence is gradually disseminated . “”
According to Trichell, the family was not interviewed about the published video. You wonder why other evidence cannot be published.
The Iberia Municipality Sheriff’s office has announced that there is a video showing Quawan alone in the area where his body was found.
