District Attorney: Man arrested for deadly shooting released, acted in self-defense

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – Authorities say they have released a man originally detained in Oklahoma City for a fatal shootout.

At around 5:00 a.m. on Sunday, officers were called to a house near NW 29th and Independence about a shooting.

When officers arrived, they found 47-year-old Zachariah Perry, who was pronounced dead after a gunshot wound.

They also found a 37-year-old man who had also been shot but was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators learned that there was some sort of altercation between Perry and a resident at the apartment.

The woman tried to walk with the help of several people, including 33-year-old Rodrick Liggens.

Authorities say another altercation took place between the group and the 37-year-old resident during the Brexit.

At the time, investigators said the male resident opened fire on the group and Liggens opened fire on the house.

Liggens was originally arrested for second degree murder.

However, the Oklahoma District Attorney’s Office declined to bring charges against Liggens on the grounds that he had defended himself.

Instead, investigators are examining the possibility of arresting the 37-year-old resident who first opened fire on the group.
