Hunter Biden, son of President-elect Joe Biden, has announced that his tax affairs will be investigated by the US law firm in Delaware.
The younger Mr Biden’s unexpected announcement came through a statement from the Biden transition team on Wednesday afternoon.
It was not immediately clear what the exact issues were being investigated and whether any specific allegations were being made against the future president’s son.
Hunter Biden said in the statement, “I first learned yesterday that the US law firm in Delaware also told my legal advisor yesterday that they were investigating my tax affairs.
“I take this matter very seriously, but I am confident that a professional and objective review of these matters will show that I have handled my affairs legally and appropriately, including with the benefit of professional accountants.”
A statement from the Biden transition team was also included in the news release that fell in the email inbox around 4 p.m. Washington DC time.
It read: “President-elect Biden is deeply proud of his son, who has overcome difficult challenges, including the vicious personal attacks of the past few months, to appear strengthened.”
More will follow.
