Indonesian police to investigate huge blaze at attorney general's office

JAKARTA: The Indonesian police will investigate a massive fire that devastated the attorney general's office building in Jakarta on Saturday evening (August 22nd), said the capital's police spokesman Yusri Yunus.

Pictures of the scene showed flames engulfing several floors of the six-story building in south Jakarta on Saturday after 7 p.m. The Jakarta Fire Department dispatched 65 fire engines and more than 200 firefighters to put out the fire.

“The fire is still cooling. When that's done, the police's national forensic laboratory will begin the investigation, ”Yunus told Reuters on Sunday.

The Indonesian authorities said no one was injured in the fire. The incident sparked concern among Indonesian social media users. Some speculated the fire may have been linked to high-level investigations.

AGO spokesman Hari Setiyono declined to speculate as to the cause of the fire, saying the AGO's files are safe as they are kept in a separate area untouched by the fire.
