J&Ok lawyer’s killing a part of ‘secular’ terror technique | India Information

Lawyer held for cheating, raping woman | Hyderabad News

SRINAGAR: Prominent Kashmiri lawyer-activist Babar Qadiri’s killing in Srinagar last week was the handiwork of the fledgling outfit TRF and part of a strategy to “secularise” terror in the Valley by picking targets irrespective of religion, political affiliation and stand on the nullification of Article 370, intelligence sources said on Monday.
Qadiri, a regular on TV debates, was known to lash out at both India and Pakistan when discussing Kashmir. On social media, he had lately been particularly critical of the separatist set.
Qadiri’s father and father-in-law, who was killed by terrorists some years ago, were both Jamiat-e-Islami functionaries.
“TRF had created a hit list comprising a dozen names two months ago, although it isn’t known yet if Qadiri was part of it,” an intelligence official said. “What we do know is that the outfit has been created with Pakistan’s backing to change the terror template in Kashmir and announce its arrival with a series of assassinations.”
Days before he was shot dead by two motorcycle-borne terrorists outside his home, Qadiri had tweeted about a threat to his life after being accused by an online troll of “working for agencies”. The police have yet to confirm if that had anything to do with the lawyer’s killing.
“We have some clues to Babar Qadiri’s killing. Hopefully, JK Police will be able to crack the case soon. We have constituted a special investigation team that is on the job,” DGP Dilbag Singh said.
For TRF, propped up by Pakistan as an offshoot of Lashkar-e-Taiba post the events of August 2019, the first year of its existence has been about making its presence felt by carrying out a series of attacks. Since July, seven political functionaries, most of them from BJP, have been killed and several others injured. Sources said TRF was behind many of these terror strikes.
