Iced Earth guitarist Jon Schaffer’s attorneys have denied the musician’s arrest warrant for his alleged involvement in the US Capitol storm.
Schaffer is currently being held without bail on six federal criminal charges related to the siege that occurred on January 6th.
The guitarist appeared in photos and videos of the riot at the Washington DC Capitol. In one video he was heard saying, “If someone wants to bring violence, I think many of us are ready here.”
Schaffer’s attorneys have argued that he did not act violently on Jan. 6, claiming that he “left the Capitol in about sixty seconds and returned to Indiana”.

“Mr. Schaffer is 53 years old,” Attorney Marc Victor wrote in a court motion. “He has no criminal convictions. He has no substance abuse or mental health problem. He has no violent past and was not violent on January 6, 2021.” He entered the Capitol with pepper spray. He didn’t threaten anyone with the spray or hand it in. “
During a hearing on Friday (March 19), his attorneys alleged that the aforementioned comments Schaffer made on a video had been taken out of context and that her client wished he had a “do-over”.
However, Judge Zia Faruqui stated that Schaffer poses a threat to the community and should be held without bail until his trial begins.
Shortly after Schaffer was arrested in January, his bandmates denounced his alleged involvement in the storming of the Capitol. “We absolutely do not condone or support unrest,” they said.
“We hope everyone involved will be brought to justice that day to be investigated and responded to for their actions.”
