Of the money raised in fiscal 2020, $ 4,861,020.77 was won through civil lawsuits and $ 2,581,550.52 was won through criminal proceedings. Forfeited funds are used to restore funds for victims of crime as well as for various law enforcement purposes.

“The men and women of the US Attorney General continue to work diligently to bring justice to East Tennesseans,” Maryville resident Overbey said in the news release. “The money reclaimed for crime victims and taxpayers is the direct result of the hard work and dedication of our US assistant attorneys for the welfare of this community.”

The entire Department of Justice raised more than $ 15.9 billion in civil and criminal justice nationwide in fiscal 2020.
