TUCSON (KVOA) – On Monday, Laura Conover celebrated her first 100 days as a new attorney in Pima County. And she highlights some of her accomplishments.
Conover’s agenda includes ending the death penalty in Pima County.
So far, she has dismantled the Capital Homicide Panel and says there are no remaining cases in the county of petitioning for the death penalty and that there will be no such cases being brought under current guidance.
“It is excruciatingly painful for victims, who can wait up to 42 years for an execution date,” she said. “Pima County is not going to get involved in this in the future, and the only way to do that is by not having any exceptions.”
The prosecution has also created a new fraud department that leads a fraud prevention task force in southern Arizona that is now educating vulnerable residents to prevent fraud.
