Lawyer from Laval charged with child pornography offences

The Laval Police Department says they arrested a 58-year-old Laval lawyer and charged him with alleged possession and distribution of child pornography after a five month investigation.

According to media reports, Jean Berthelot is a practicing labor lawyer. An arrest warrant was served on him on December 15 at his home on Philippe Dolbec Street in Laval’s Sainte Rose sector.

The Laval Police Department has accused Jean Berthelot of possessing and distributing child pornography.

According to an official post on the LPD website, an investigation was opened last July after Facebook administrators reported incriminating information about the contents of Berthelot’s Facebook account to Canadian police forces.

Berthelot was charged in the Laval courthouse on the same day as his arrest.

The arrest warrant also enabled the LPD to seize Berthelot’s computers and cell phones as part of their investigation.

Berthelot’s next scheduled appearance in court is March 19.
