SALEM – A well-known Boston defense attorney with ties to Salem is being wanted by Boston police for rape, breaking and indictment, Boston police said Wednesday evening.
Gary Zerola, 49, who was on trial for sexual assault in 2016 and previously acquitted on three other alleged sexual assaults, is a former Essex and Suffolk district attorney who was named one of People Magazine’s “best eligible bachelors” in 2001. “”
Zerola lived in a condo in Salem near Highland Avenue and Swampscott Road and also has an address in Boston.
Police released a photo and description of Zerola stating that he weighs 5’11 “, 180 pounds, and that he may be driving a 2016 Jeep Cherokee with license plate 571SY3.
An arrest warrant for Zerola was issued in Boston City Court.
The police did not release details of the incident on Wednesday evening.
The Salem police were aware of efforts to locate Zerola.
The police are asking anyone who knows their whereabouts to call 911 or the CrimeStoppers Tip Line at 800-494-TIPS or send the word “TIP” to CRIME (27463).
