Merrick Garland hearing: Attorney general seeks more funding for domestic terrorism, civil rights work

The appearance was Garland’s first before Legislature on Capitol Hill since he was confirmed as attorney general, and while allegedly budget-focused, he was faced with far-reaching issues including border security, voter identification laws, and enforcement of marijuana. He largely repeated his earlier public positions. For example, he said he didn’t think it would make sense for the department to devote resources to prosecuting marijuana cases against users or in cases where the substance is “regulated by the state”, but the department was looking at “transnational operations in large quantities “from Mexico.”
