CEBU CITY – A lawyer was shot dead by two armed men on a motorcycle along the national highway in Danao City on Thursday, barely three weeks after another lawyer was murdered in Cebu province.
Lawyer Baby Maria Concepcion Landero-Ole was driving her car en route to that town when she was attacked at 2:50 p.m. Police Maj said. Ma. Theresa Macatangay, chief of the Danao police. She died when she was taken to a hospital.
Ole was killed by two unidentified men in Danao almost six months after the death of her husband Juanito. Juanito had just been released from New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City, and investigators did not reveal the nature of his case.
Ole’s murder came after attorney Joey Luis Wee was shot dead while walking into his Cebu City office on November 23.
The National Bureau of Investigation arrested a suspect in the murder of Wee on December 9 and brought charges against five other people who allegedly conspired to kill Wee.
Macatangay said investigators into Ole’s murder were reviewing footage from surveillance cameras in the area.
“This attack is not only an attack on the life of a court official, but also an attack on the legal profession and the rule of law,” said attorney Ria Lydia Espina, chapter president of the Integrated Bar Association of the Philippines in Cebu.
