Pakistan- Senior lawyer Abdul Latif Afridi again into ANP fold

Pakistan- Senior lawyer Abdul Latif Afridi back into ANP fold

(MENAFN – Tribal News Network) PESHAWAR: The Awami National Party (ANP) has restored the basic membership of senior lawyer and nationalist leader Abdul Latif Afridi who was suspended 10 months back over some differences with the party leadership.

Sources told TNN that Abdul Latif Afridi held a meeting with the ANP provincial president Aimal Wali Khan at Bacha Khan Markaz on Saturday during which both the leaders decided to forget about the past grievances against each other and join hands to work for the betterment of Pakhtuns and strengthen the party.

Senior ANP leader Haji Ghulam Ahmed Bilour, provincial senior vice president Khushdil Khan Advocate, provincial general secretary Sardar Hussain Babak, NYO provincial president Tariq Afghan and senior advocate Razaullah Khan were also present on the occasion.

Aimal Wali Khan had issued show cause notices to three ANP leaders including Latif Afridi, Imran Afridi and Ayaz Wazir over violation of the party discipline in August last year.

The show cause notice told Latif Afridi that his son contested the first ever provincial elections in merged tribal districts as an independent candidate. The show cause notice quoting information collected by the party’s district and provincial organisation had complained that the party had always given a lot of respect to Abdul Latif Afridi and his family due to his services for the party, but it was unfortunate that he or his son even did not consider it appropriate to submit an application for contesting the elections on the ANP ticket with the party’s parliamentary board.

Later on, the basic party membership of Latif Afridi was suspended as he chose to support his son in the election instead of the party’s candidate.

Latif Afridi after coming back into the ANP fold said he is extremely relieved and happy over rejoining the party. He said he spend a difficult time away from the party when he was suspended, but now all that pain has gone. He said he will now resign from the presidentship of Peshawar High Court Bar Association (PHCBA) and other offices and dedicate himself for betterment of the party. He said misunderstandings with the party leadership have been removed.
