PM’s lawyer alleges contempt of court order  – FBC News

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama's attorney today asked permission to continue the proceedings against attorney and former politician Aman Ravindra Singh.

Singh was ordered in July this year to pay Prime Minister and Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum more than $ 149,000 in damages for defamation.

The court found that Singh had posted an unsubstantiated article on his Facebook page entitled "Regime Dirty Politics". Singh made unfounded allegations on social media about her and the May 2000 coup.

Bainimarama's attorney, Devanesh Sharma, told the court today that the respondent had disregarded the court order as no money had been paid.

Sharma has 14 days to submit an application.

Singh was absent from court today.

The case will be called again on the 26th of that month.
