Jason L. Schmidt was sworn into the Chautauqua District Attorney’s office on Saturday with far less fanfare than any of his predecessors. The ceremony took place on the shores of Lake Erie without guests, speeches or any of the traditional inauguration formalities. It only took a few minutes.
Chautauqua Hon. District Court Judge David W. Foley took the oath of office when Schmidt’s fiancée Danielle Erickson held the Bible. What was traditionally just an opening event in the standing room was instead a brief, intimate affair that appropriately reflected Schmidt’s focus on the serious task of creating a strong prosecutor’s office dedicated to justice for victims and the entire community.
