State Bar of California charges attorney Tom Girardi with misappropriating millions from clients

The State Bar of California on Tuesday filed disciplinary charges against legendary attorney Tom Girardi, officially accusing him of millions of client funds, dishonesty and other moral violations in his legal practice.

In practice, the disciplinary action will have little effect on the cast member “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills”. Last month, 81-year-old Girardi was transferred to a temporary conservatory because of his family’s dementia and was consequently placed in inactive status by the Bar Association.

Girardi was politically savvy and one of California’s most renowned lawyers. Despite a trail of unhappy clients and malpractice lawsuits, he held an immaculate license at the bar.

That reputation began to crumble late last year after his wife, singer and Real Housewives star Erika Jayne filed for divorce and his vaunted Wilshire Boulevard company closed down. A bankruptcy trustee has stated in court records that Girardi owes more than $ 56 million to creditors, former customers and lenders.
