A commercial trial attorney who was hit and killed by a U-Haul truck in an underground parking garage in Midtown Toronto on Friday evening was the victim of a “targeted” murder, according to Toronto police.
According to investigators, 52-year-old Scott Rosen had finished work for his law firm in the Eglinton Avenue and Mount Pleasant Road area around 5:30 p.m. when he was hit by the driver of a rented U-Haul truck in the building’s underground car park.
The driver of the vehicle started and Rosen was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Det.-Sgt. Ted Lioumanis told reporters Monday that the suspect waited for roses in the parking garage for some time before the murder.
The U-Haul was recovered in the Bathurst and Dundas Streets area later that night, but police have not yet established who was driving the vehicle.
“We have the vehicle in question. This is currently under forensic investigation, “Lioumanis told reporters on Monday afternoon. “We had and still have witnesses to come forward. We have many, many companies that have published their video. “
He said investigators had not yet identified a motive for the fatal attack.
“We’ll take care of everything, we’ll look at any current or past business he might have had,” Lioumanis said.
“It’s very unsettling to say the least. As I understand it, Mr. Rosen was a very good lawyer. Very on the rise. I was advised that he should be proud of his work. “
He added that police have not yet found any evidence that the victim received threats prior to the murder.
“The family is obviously upset, very upset,” said the detective. “I couldn’t imagine what they were going through at that time, especially the time of year that precedes Christmas.”
The police asked witnesses who have not yet come forward and people with video footage from the area to contact the investigators.
