The Trump campaign is rejecting its association with attorney Sidney Powell after Thursday’s far-fetched press conference of the Trump campaign when it alleged, without evidence, that the late Hugo Chavez was, among other things, responsible for fraudulent elections. The campaign claimed she was “not a member of the Trump legal team,” despite the fact that President and Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani had previously identified her as a member of the team.
In the days since the press conference, Powell has made additional unsubstantiated claims against conservative networks, and their claims have even been challenged by Fox News’ Tucker Carlson after she refused to present her evidence on the show.
“Sidney Powell is a self-employed attorney. She is not a member of the Trump Legal Team. Nor is she a presidential attorney in his personal capacity,” said a statement from Giuliani and Trump’s senior legal advisor Jenna Ellis.
During Thursday’s press conference, Giuliani identified Powell as a member of the team defending Mr. Trump, and the President himself identified Powell as someone working for him in a November 14 tweet.
“I look forward to Mayor Giuliani leading the legal effort to defend our right to free and fair elections! Rudy Giuliani, Joseph diGenova, Victoria Toensing, Sidney Powell and Jenna Ellis, a really great team, have our other wonderful lawyers and agents added! “Mr. Trump tweeted at the time.
Powell made this statement on CBS News:
“I understand today’s press release,” she said. “I will continue to represent #WeThePeople, whose votes for Trump and other Republicans have been stolen by massive Dominion and Smartmatic fraud, and we will be filing a lawsuit soon. The chips will fall where they like and we will defend the foundations for it.” great republic. #KrakenOnSteroids “
On Thursday, Ellis called the team that held the press conference, which included Powell, the “Strike Forces Elite Team.” Powell, Giuliani and Ellis have claimed that they are holding their greatest evidence for court where they are.
Powell was the attorney for General Michal Flynn, the former National Security Advisor to the President who was dismissed for lying to Vice President Mike Pence about his Russian contacts and convicted of lying to the FBI on the same matter.
