United States Attorney Cody Hiland Announces Resignation | USAO-EDAR

LITTLE ROCK – U.S. attorney Cody Hiland, 48, of Conway, has announced his resignation as U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas effective December 31, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. After his retirement, he plans to pursue opportunities in the private sector.

Hiland, a graduate of the University of Central Arkansas and the University of Arkansas at the William H. Bowen School of Law in Little Rock, previously served as the elected attorney for Arkansas’ 20th Judicial District.

Hiland makes the following statement about his departure:

The opportunity to represent the extraordinary people of this great nation as the United States’ attorney has been the greatest honor and the most fulfilling duty of my public career. I can think of no greater calling or greater responsibility in the legal community than the privilege of bearing the burden of the search for justice. It is a sobering responsibility that requires discipline of emotions, sharpness of spirit, and love for the people you serve and the Constitution that protects us all. The pursuit of this end is in itself a great reward. But doing so with the dedicated officials who work in the U.S. Attorney’s Office and who possess these rare qualities is a gift I will always cherish. The fact that the US assistant attorneys in this small district has the sixth largest number of cases out of 94 districts is nothing short of remarkable and a testament to their dedication and work ethic. Every success that has been owed to this office over the past three years belongs to each and every one of our employees. I am just proud to be connected with their tireless efforts.
