MANILA, Philippines – A lawyer was fatally shot after assaulting a Manila regional court judge in their office in Manila City Hall on Wednesday afternoon, police said.
Police said the victim, RTC Branch 45 Judge Ma. Theresa Abadlla, 44, was allegedly shot and killed by attorney Amador Rebato, 42, chief of the clerk of the same RTC Department 45 in Manila, located on the fifth floor of Manila City Hall.
Police Major Jhun Ibay, head of the response team for the Special Mayor of Manila Police District, told INQUIRER.net that the suspect allegedly died after he shot himself.
“He’s dead (suspect is dead) [..] with his own firearms. That was the initial in my assessment that really killed me. (This is our first assessment that he killed himself.) ”Ibay said in a telephone interview when asked about the suspect’s cause of death.
The shooting allegedly took place at 2:45 p.m., the police report said.
According to the same report, Abadlla was taken to the nearest hospital for emergency treatment.
“The judge is still reviving the nearest hospital,” Ibay said.
(She is resuscitated in the hospital.)
The hospital was not disclosed to protect the victim’s life from potential threats, Ibay said.
The shooting incident is still being investigated, the police said.
