President-elect Joe Biden has a pony problem. During the primary, Joe Biden responded bizarrely to a woman who asked why voters should believe he could win a national election by saying, “You are a lying dog-faced pony soldier.” That encounter came to my mind when Biden this week mocked Fox reporter Peter Doocy for violating the virtual news blackout in the Hunter Biden story. by asking about the scandal. Biden immediately left the stage and then stopped and said, “Yes, yes, yes. God loves you man – you are a one horse pony, I tell you. “
Like many children at Christmas, many voters are still fishing for a pony. Biden has spent months making fun of Hunter Biden’s story – and anyone who asks about it. When CBS news reporter Bo Erickson asked Biden about his son’s scandal, Bo Erickson pulled a similar reprimand from Biden. He just asked, ‘Mr. Biden, how do you react to the New York Post story about your son, sir? “Biden’s response was again a personal attack:” I know you would ask. I have no answer, it’s another smear campaign right down your alley, those are the questions you keep asking. “Biden also blew up on a question raised by the scandal by an NBC reporter and a Fox reporter asking about his son.
It just doesn’t work. The media has worked openly to bury the Hunter-Biden scandal before the election, but the ponies keep finding their way back. The problem is when you’re a reporter like Doocy who refuses to be corralled and insists on an answer to a serious question.
The question yesterday was a good one. Doocy yelled, “Mr. Do you still think the fall stories about your son Hunter were Russian disinformation and a smear campaign, as you said? “Biden’s” yes, yes, yes “response seemed to continue a discredited claim (indeed” disinformation “) made by figures such as House Intelligence Committee chair Adam Schiff, who assured the public that the allegations were against “This whole smear against Joe Biden comes from the Kremlin. About 50 former intelligence officials, including Obama’s CIA directors John Brennan and Leon Panetta, also insisted that the laptop story was likely the work of Russian intelligence. Cable hosts and journalists laughed at the laptop story as fake news to justify the power failure in reporting before the elections.
Then the pony reappeared. After the election, it was confirmed (as some of us discussed in pre-election columns) that Hunter Biden was under federal investigation. The laptop appears to be real. The emails appear to be real. And Doocy kept asking the obvious questions.
Biden is still hoping he can keep making fun of it and the media will keep doing the rest. A reporter raised the scandal yesterday, but only to ask if Biden had discussed it with attorney general candidates (the campaign already said Biden would allow the Justice Department to draw its own conclusions). There are other obvious questions, including whether a key Bidens business partner, Anthony Bobulinski, is lying. Either Tony Bobulinski or Joe Biden are lying. Bobulinski is repeatedly praised by Hunter Biden in the emails and identified as the person who controls the transactions for “the family”. He has directly contradicted Joe Biden’s rejection of any knowledge or involvement in his son’s dubious dealings.
There’s a reason Biden may not want to answer this question. If he calls Bobulinski a liar, Biden will face a libel lawsuit within days. He would then be forced to swear under oath in a defamation. Such deposits have their own dangers. Just ask Bill Clinton. So it’s not a pesky pony, but a sworn deposit that Biden may be trying to avoid.
The same problem exists with other questions. For example, Joe and Jill Biden were not only accepted as “office mates” with controversial Chinese investor (and Hunter employee) Gongwen Dong, but emails refer to unsecured loans to the Biden family and stocks to “the big guy” . “The” big guy “seems to be Joe Biden. In addition, Biden spent the election denying that his son had done nothing wrong and made no money from China. The question is when Biden found out about the federal investigation and whether he was aware of the multi-million dollar unsecured loan deal (as well as alleged gifts such as a precious diamond to his son). An incorrect answer to these questions could spark a Congressional investigation and more ponies would show up.
That is the problem with a bunker press strategy of denial and isolation. Like water, truth has a way of getting out. Obviously, a lot of media will continue to be in the bag for Biden. However, horses tend to cluster where the water is. First there was a pony (Doocy). Then another appeared (Erickson). Before you know it, you have a herd and the threat of a rush. Then it might be too late.
In a derisive comment on Doocy, Biden was clearly trying to say a “one-trick pony”. However, this trick was formerly known as “journalism” when reporters persisted in demanding answers, particularly on questions like the impact of peddling. So many of us are still hoping for ponies – and even some answers – for Christmas.
